The vision of the chapter is to engage in a comprehensive and integrated way in the lives of the students, faculty, parents/guardians of Metcalfe Elementary School to help improve students’ academic abilities and readiness for secondary and post secondary school education, improve their self-esteem, social skills, and readiness for a variety of careers as well as enhance their parents and teachers’ abilities to support them and advocate for them. Our programs focus on:
READING & TUTORING
Provide year round reading and tutoring support to students in grades K4 – 8 and in-classroom assistance and support to teachers whose students are performing below grade level.
Support and sponsor enrichment activities and field trips to a variety of local attractions and events.
HOLIDAY & SUMMER BOOK DRIVES
Provide books, dictionaries and smart tablets to enhance the children’s reading and technology skills, encourage their love of reading and to help reduce the skills slide often experienced during school intersessions and breaks.
CAN YOU IMAGINE ME? CHILDHOOD OBESITY INITIATIVE
Our health and well-being activities are focused on improving the quality of life, health and wellness of the students and helping to reduce the incidence of childhood obesity in the school and community.
CLOTHING BANK & WINTER COAT DRIVE
The Milwaukee, WI Chapter maintains a clothing bank for the many undeclared homeless children and families in the school. We also collaborate with key partners to provide new winter coats and school supplies to all the children.
